Perseids and Total Solar Eclipse

On 12 August 2026, I captured the total solar eclipse from Prades, Catalonia, using my Sony A7S (astro-modified) and an Artisans 11mm f/2.8 fisheye lens.

Only a few hours later, I left a second camera, my Sony A7SIII, running throughout the night to photograph the Perseid meteor shower — using the same lens and from exactly the same location.

I wanted to bring these two very different astronomical phenomena together in a single image. The final composition combines the eclipse photograph with dozens of individual Perseid meteors captured during the night of 12–13 August 2026.

The image also reveals the Milky Way, stretching across the night sky, with the Andromeda Galaxy (M31) visible above it — adding another layer to this remarkable celestial scene.

Each meteor was recorded in a separate 30-second exposure and later combined into the final composition. This makes it possible to visualise the remarkable activity of the Perseid meteor shower while preserving the original perspective and sky position from Prades.

The eclipse and the Perseids were separated by only a few hours, creating a unique opportunity to document two major astronomical phenomena from the same location, with the same optical setup, but with two different cameras.

I have included several versions of the final composition, showing different combinations of the two phenomena and highlighting the relationship between the total solar eclipse and the Perseid meteor shower that followed later that same night.
